Expel the Israeli ambassador now!

Ógra Shinn Féin in Donegal have launched a banner in Carndonagh echoing calls by Uachtarán Shinn Féin Mary Lou McDonald for the immediate expulsion of the Israeli ambassador to Ireland.

A spokesperson for Ógra Shinn Féin said:

"In recent weeks along the Gaza border in Palestine Israeli military snipers opened fire on peacefully protesting Palestinians. This resulted in the killing of 29 Palestinian demonstrators.

"Many news agencies wrongly reported on these killings as deaths that resulted from ‘clashes’ when in fact video evidence shows many of those shot were merely standing, praying or running to safety. Another video shows an Israeli sniper aiming down his sights at a Palestinian merely standing near the border, the sniper then opens fire and when the Palestinian falls to the ground the sniper starts to celebrate.

"In response to these killings and the continued occupation of Palestinian land, Donegal Ógra Shinn Féin conducted a banner drop. This action comes after Ógra nationally along with large crowds attended demonstrations in support of Palestine in Derry, Belfast, Newry and Dublin.

"The banner called for the expulsion of the Israeli Ambassador from Ireland and was placed at a busy junction in the town of Carndonagh. Banner drops are a long-used tactic of the Republican movement to convey our ideals and messages. They help educate the public, create pressure and raise awareness of issues and causes both national and international.

"Our message has already reached 100’s of people as they pass the junction. Activists across the island should keep up the pressure on the 26-county government to expel the Israeli ambassador.

"Protests in town squares, banner drops or encouraging a boycott of Israeli goods are a few examples of how we can ensure the Palestinian cause is not forgotten. The importance of expelling the ambassador is rooted in the fact the Israeli embassy and its staff serve as a smiling face that attempts to justify Israel’s crimes and dehumanise the Palestinian people."
