Al-Aqsa metal detectors should be removed and collective punishment ended - SFRY

Sinn Féin Republican Youth has called for an end to 'collective punishment' against Palestinian's by the Israeli government after they erected metal detectors at the entrance of the Al-Aqsa mosque compound, having previously closed the Mosque during Friday prayers.

A spokesperson for Sinn Féin Republican Youth said:

"The erection of metal detectors at the entrance of the Al-Aqsa mosque compound in Jerusalem, is a further attempts by Israeli authorities to occupy the Al-Aqsa sacred site.

“Just last week, for the first time in decades the holy site was been closed by Israeli authorities during Friday prayers.

"The actions of the Israeli authorities will only serve to heighten tensions in Jerusalem and will do little to deter further violent incidents - this draconian security response is a form of collective punishment against the Palestinian community in Jerusalem and will be rightly viewed as a direct attack on their religious freedom to worship at their sacred site.

“Israeli authorities should immediately remove the metal detectors from the Al-Aqsa mosque compound and return to the shared agreement of the status quo which allows Palestinians the freedom to worship freely at their sacred site.”
